Summer Rain

Today there was a summer rain.

I have to tell you,

It reminded me of one of my favorite childhood memories.

Every time it would get cloudy and still on a hot summer day,

My brothers and I would get so excited.

As soon as the drops started to fall,

My mom would let us go out and play in the backyard.

No jackets or umbrellas.

Barefoot, even.

I can still feel the rain on my face.

I can see my mother laughing at us.

I can smell the damp air.

I can taste the warm drops on my tongue.

I can hear my brothers singing with abandon

Our family was normal for a moment!

We loved, laughed, and lived!

The road for us was not always an easy one

But memories like this

Prove to me that God was with us through it all.

He took care of us, melting the dirt clods that formed

With the rain and with the laughter.

He softened our hearts and watered us with His love.

It wasn't always easy in our home,

But to this day, I am still satisfied

By the sweet taste of the fruit that God produced

In times like these.

God is good.

You take care of the earth and water it,
making it rich and fertile.
The river of God has plenty of water;
it provides a bountiful harvest of grain,
for you have ordered it so.
You drench the plowed ground with rain,
melting the clods and leveling the ridges.
You soften the earth with showers
and bless its abundant crops.
You crown the year with a bountiful harvest;
even the hard pathways overflow with abundance.
Psalm 65:9-11
