festival of lights

Note: The trouble with blogging in the morning is you have no idea what sort of adventures await you as the day progresses. Hence, a two-posting day.

This evening we took a spur-of-the-moment trip to the Mission Inn to see their 'Festival of Lights' opening ceremonies. We had no idea what to expect, but WOW! We arrived just as the countdown began, and were surprised to catch a full fireworks show, accompanied by a live band playing Christmas music. After the grand finale of fireworks, the entire Mission Inn lit up! It was really fantastic.

On the way there, the kids kept fussing at us (good-naturedly) about where were we going, what were we going to do, what were we up to. Jason and I took it as a 'note to self' moment. As the time approaches for us to make some major life changes, we imagined that our questions to God would answered the same way we answered our children.

"Come on guys, just get dressed and get in the car. Did you think we were going to take you to the city dump? Of course we're going to take you somewhere fun! We love you! It's more of an adventure if you trust us! When have we let you down?"

We hear you, Lord. We know you love us. You're not going to lead us to the dump, and we understand trusting you makes for a much more fun. Help us (me, really) not get antsy. You truly never have let us down.

Send out Your light and Your truth;let them guide me.Let them lead me to Your holy mountain,to the place where You live
Psalm 43:3

I love how you can tie a scripture directly to your daily struggles and triumphs. Feels so similar to our family's trip to a small town tree lighting. I heard choruses of "how long will this last?", "what do we do next?" and "what happens now?" Just relax and enjoy, already!

BTW, I gave you an award over at my place. Come see when you get a chance.

I love note to self moments. In my chaos I sometimes don't notice them, but when I do I always feel like at least something in the day was worth the trouble...:)

I googled Mission Inn and someone from Good Morning America is going to be there to show the lights this Friday. I will have to Tivo it so I can see it.

Thanks for sharing your note to self - I too, am guilty of getting busy and missing those small nuggets from God.
