How to.... Soft focus and Screen Caps

I've had a few "How did you" and "How do you" comments and emails from ya'll lately, so for the next couple of days, I'm going to expose myself for the fraud I am and show you the shortcuts I use :*

Question 1: How did you do those effects of the 4th grade pictures?
Answer: I cheated. I downloaded the free version of
Picasa, loaded my photos, and pushed the "soft focus" button- this one:

There are lots of other effects, too. I'm enjoying playing with it for sure. I know it's not the only way, and probably not the best way, but I'm all for simple and free... so that's what I use. Picasa (at least my version) has some limitations, so I have to use other programs to do other things, but all in all, I really like using it.

bonus: to save a picture of your screen for whatever reason, just hit the "print scrn" button on your keyboard, then paste into a fresh Word or Publisher document. Then you can right click the image and hit "save as picture" and name it.

see? nothing fancy. You can TOTALLY do it!

Tomorrow, I'll write about how to make buttons, and once you see how, the magic of His Girl will be gone and you will instead read cleverer blogs like
Beck's who uses no tricks to lure her readers, just amazing writing. And then every time you click over here by accident, you'll say "Pfft. I can totally do that." and go and rearead this post (link fixed) at One More Thing while you dry your eyes with a tissue. That's what you will do.

But before that happens, I have one more thing for today! Melissa over at
Breath of Life just was used by Jesus to reinstate one of our favorite family traditions; the Dress Me Up Plate. Before my Bigfatbeagle Sydney Bristow decided to jump up and pull down a bag sitting was next to my favorite plate, catching and shattering my treasure into pieces on the floor, we used to post at least a scripture a week on this beautiful dish. Special occasions got special scriptures, and even my kids were getting involved, leaving me a scripture of their choosing for me from time to time. After I decided making beagle burgers was out of the question, and had actually given up on purchasing another (it's a little spendy!) until I could save up, Melissa, who is (hopefully still) a Southern Living At Home consultant, blessed me with a new one. For no good reason. Just to be nice. Even though we are practically strangers. I don't mind telling you I cried. I am so excited to bring this tradition back to the His Girl home. Thanks, Melissa! xoxo

The Lord is our God, the Lord alone. And you must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your strength. And you must commit yourselves wholeheartedly to these commands that I am giving you today. Repeat them again and again to your children. Talk about them when you are at home and when you are on the road, when you are going to bed and when you are getting up. Tie them to your hands and wear them on your forehead as reminders.
Write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.

Deuteronomy 6:4-9 (NLT)

*These steps are for PC users. Sorry, I don't know how to use fancy Mac computers.

You are perfectly welcome! Have to tell you, if I'd thought to put Scriptures on it, I would've kept it for myself ;-)

Yes, I'm still a consultant. I'm hoping it will help pay for the Peru trip.

And I LOVE the new look!

Cute blog design!

How ironic about the dress-me-up plate tradition you have. I literally just wrote about one of our family traditions about an hour ago...LOL! And it's a plate one too.

Thanks for taking the time to help us out a bit with bloggy stuff.

PS- Love the verse of the dress me up plate tradition. My oldest broke my plate when he was a toddler. Miss it.
