Wow, somehow we've arrived at the end of our Seeking Him Together Study. This week, we are going to discuss these final three questions, then later we'll post a grand finale wrap up:
1.Why is daily prayer and scripture reading important?If you're posting, let me know in the comments and I'll add your link up here.
2.What is your current routine?
3.How will your current routine be changed (if at all) after studying this chapter?
Like Gretchen, whose link is HEREIf you're not posting... I'm still curious about your answer to #2! I'd love to read about it in the comments below... don't be shy!
And Brook, who you can read HERE
And DianA, whose post is HERE
Now, for my post....
1.Why is daily prayer and scripture reading important? The answer to this one for me would be the same as my answer to "Why is daily eating and drinking important?" Because I function better throughout the day when I'm filled with nutrients and sustenance. I could rush out without breakfast, skip lunch, and blow off dinner- but I wouldn't make good decisions, I'd be cranky, and I'd be useless in a crisis. Same with my morning study.
2.What is your current routine? I used to cower in the corner when asked this questions, until I made the decision to just do it. Get up before the kids & husband. Even when it hurts. Get out of bed even when it hurts. Go to my quiet spot on the sofa, Get busy. In the interest of brevity, here's what I do (disclaimer: I'm not saying this is how everyone should do it, I'm saying this is what works for me. Also, I mix it up often, but didn't deviate until I got a routine. Everytime I get off track, I go back to the routine again. FYI- the #1 routine breaker is when I start turning the computer on before I sit down with Jesus. It's a BIG mistake)
- Write out prayers in journal- praises, petitions, care-casting, gratitude
- Read a chapter of the Bible- been going through the Bible for YEARS this way
- Read the corresponding commentary in my Application Commentary by Jon Courson
- Pray again and make my list of to-do's for the day, asking God to be in charge
- Repeat tomorrow
Okay, keepin' it short... keepin' it real. What do you do?
O God, You are my God;
Early will I seek You;
My soul thirsts for You;
My flesh longs for You
Psalm 63:1
Early will I seek You;
My soul thirsts for You;
My flesh longs for You

Lurve your succinct "what works for you" routine. I tend to be a distractible drifter, so having 2 or 3 or 5 bullet points works well for me.
Can I just say...I totally see the fruit here. xxxooo
Can I also just say...
That every new Christian should be given these instructions so that she isn't overwhelmed by the whole idea of a quiet time.
And I know these were questions, and should have a question mark, but I rebelled and put a period. Because I can.
I know all about the computer waster. I am drawn to it like a moth to flame. Argh!!!
I have a basket with my Bible Study book (doing a Beth Moore right now)and a notebook for lessons learned.
I try to have my QT when I get home from taking the kids to school, but that's not working for me right now since I've thrown the gym into the mix. Need to figure out a new routine.
My #2 answer is similar to yours EXCEPT for the morning aspect. My quiet time works best for me in the evening after everyone in the household is fast asleep. I have a household of male early risers and I am NOT an early morning person (try as I might back in the day when I thought that was more "spiritually accurate.")
Coincidentally, the evening is also my best blogging opportunity (I do a lot of scheduled posts.) I too have to beware NOT to go to the computer first. Although many of the blogs that I read are uplifting; it is SO EASY to get sucked in.
I don't have a routine yet. I do it about once / week and that's not enough. I know that when I commit to one I will stick to it because that's how I am. Right now I'm happy that I'm reading the Word when I can and know in time I will be more consistent.
I wrote my post on 7/29...http://snipssnailsandpuppydogstails.blogspot.com/2009/07/personal-devotional-life-seeking-him.html, but I am going to go add the questions.
I agree journaling everything during quiet time is wonderful. I tend to write out prayers, etc. too. I also like to jot down things as I read. Sometimes it is just a single word, but exactly what God is speaking to me about. It is awesome to look back over years of journal keeping and see His faithfulness.
I'm up:

I dont really have a routine either. I have been wanting to pick up Jon Courson again lately so I may after reading this. The morning tends to not be great for me either. I find if the first thing I do in the AM is sit down, I am very likely to be sleeping sitting up after not too long.
I have always admired your dedication to your routine, one of the first things I learned about you upon our MIRL in Palm Springs.
My routine is more like the sport jelly beans that you pop as you're in a long race and need a boost to get you to the finish line. What I'm really needing is the venti Jesus latte that warms from the inside and takes a little more calm and quiet to enjoy. :) Thanks for the grounding thoughts!
